NiP edge out Liquid in overtime

Ninjas in Pyjamas got off on the right foot at the ESL Pro League finals with a hard-fought 22-18 overtime victory over Team Liquid on Dust2.

After fnatic's convincing victory over Cloud9 in the Group B opener, the ESL Pro League finals, live from Leicester, continued with another intercontinental battle, this time between Team Liquid and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Kosta "⁠kosta⁠" Pantelić opened the game with a trio of kills in catwalk before Spencer "⁠Hiko⁠" Martin finished the job with two kills of his own. After winning both anti-eco rounds, the North American side went on to dominate proceedings in gun play, forcing NiP to call a timeout just six rounds into the game. NiP still tried to come back into the game, but the rounds they edged out were few and far between as Liquid took a 13-2 half-time lead.

NiP overturned a 2-14 deficit 

Liquid put added gloss on an already one-sided scoreline by taking the pistol round on the Terrorist side, with Suen denying Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi the chance to win a 1vs3 clutch. Many believed that the North American side would soon close the game out, but Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg gave NiP a lifeline with a trio of Scout kills from Lindberg. That win sparked a massive comeback from the Swedes, who turned a 2-14 deficit into a 15-15 tie, forcing overtime.

The first overtime could not decide a winner as both teams took three rounds on the Terrorist side. In the second overtime, NiP took a 21-18 lead after playing on the offensive side then picked up the first round as CT to seal a dramatic 22-18 success.
